New York City stays cool this summer as they actively work to reduce energy usage. Spectrum News NY1 got a tour of the command center used by citywide administrative services. Through NuEnergen’s online dashboard, EnerTrac, DCAS can instantly access their energy usage. DCAS uses this web-based tool to track energy use at facilities across the five boroughs. When there is a spike in energy use during a heatwave and there is a risk of a brownout or blackout, DCAS and NuEnergen work together to notify the tenants to curtail power. When demand is high – which is also when everyone is using their A/C – prices can get very high. Cutting back on air conditioning is also good for the environment because it reduces carbon emissions. The Department of Citywide Administrative Services helps tenants understand that it’s for the good for all New Yorkers, the environment and helps save on energy costs. Check out the video below to see how NYC is keeping an eye on energy this summer.
