SUNY Potsdam-1.jpgOn September 28, 2017, the State University of New York at Potsdam was featured as one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the US and Canada according to the Princeton Review’s 2017 Guide to Green Colleges.

Over the summer, the Princeton Review chose the schools in its guide based on “Green Rating” scores (from 60 to 99) that the company tallied for 629 colleges, using data from its 2016-17 survey of school administrators. The survey asked them to report on their school's sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs. More than 25 data points were weighted in the assessment.

SUNY Potsdam is dedicated to reducing its impact on the environment by reducing energy use, and renovating buildings to LEED specifications. By diverting local food and water, the school promotes campus-grown microgreens to be used in the University Café (among many other green initiatives) dedicated to cut down on food waste and excess water consumption.

This kind of dedication makes everyone here at NuEnergen so proud to count SUNY Potsdam as one of our clients. With their participation in Demand Response, the college helps to reduce the need to build more nuclear plants, stabilize the power grid during high demand periods, and eliminate blackouts and brownouts.

In addition to all the sustainability efforts the college has in motion, SUNY Potsdam includes numerous majors and programs that incorporate sustainability and conservation into their coursework. These range from chemistry, biology, geology, environmental science and wilderness education, to the environmental studies First-Year Interest Group and the Adirondack Experience Program.
